Here are the basic steps if you ever find yourself in a moldy situation

A Mold Assessment Consultant should assess the issues and write a Mold Remediation Protocol if necessary.  A Professional Licensed Mold Remediation Company should perform the Specific Remediation Activities.

  1. Set up containment around the affected area to prevent cross contamination.  This will help contain and confine the mold spores to the work areas.
  2. Install hepa air purifiers inside the contained area.  This will help capture the mold spores and filter the air.  Negative air pressure should be established during the remediation process.  This method prevents spores from escaping the contained areas.
  3. Dehumidifiers should be installed if affected area is still wet or moist.  This will help dry down the structure during the remediation process.  Also dehumidifiers help control the humidity inside the contained areas.
  4. Wear proper PPE when performing the remediation activities.  Wear tyvek suits and N-95 masks as a minimum.
  5. Remove affected materials (Cabinets, drywall, flooring etc.).  Make sure all affected materials are bagged properly before removing from containment.
  6. Hepa vac. and wet wipe all affected areas and all surfaces inside contained areas.
  7. Apply antimicrobial treatment to affected areas.
  8. After remediation process is complete encapsulate affected wall cavities.
  9. Clearance Testing after the wok is complete is very important.  It is a visual, moisture and analytical inspection that must pass a the clearance criteria.
